Located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica and home to the country’s second-largest international airport, Liberia has served as a resting place for people traveling between San Jose and Nicaragua for years.
Even though it’s still quite a small city, Liberia has its own unique charm that makes it a popular tourist destination. Planet Hollywood Costa Rica
Planet Hollywood is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts and a great place for a family vacation. We have spent a total of several weeks here over the past few years, and we always love it.
While the beach here isn’t the most gorgeous you’ll find, it’s just a stone’s throw from Playa Cabuyal and Playa Nacazcolo. You’re right on the Gulf of Papagayo so waves are tiny and calm, making it a great place to SUP and kayak. With the array of both international cuisine and local Costa Rican food, there’s really nothing not to like about Planet Hollywood.
Tip- you can often find great deals for Planet Hollywood on Costco Travel.

Hacienda Guachepelin
Hacienda Guachepelin is just 20 minutes outside of Liberia but it feels like it’s a world away. Just inside the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, you’ll find everything from zip lining to waterfall chasing to relaxing by a beautiful pool in the middle of the rainforest. We absolutely adore Hacienda Guachepelin for the food as well- it’s got one of the best gluten-free menus in the country.
Entrance to the Rio Negro Hot Springs is included with your hotel stay, as is a full typical Costa Rican breakfast. Even if you don’t do horseback riding, I highly recommend you stop by the stables to see the horses- they are gorgeous!
Make sure to do a tour of La Leona Waterfall when you go here- it’s not to be missed!

Margaritaville Beach Resort
Margaritaville Beach Resort on Playa Flamingo, is one of my most favorite white sand beaches in the country. What’s great about Margaritaville for families is the covered kid’s pool, making it a fun place to play and stay out of the sun’s harmful rays.
We also love this resort because there is both an all-inclusive package and an a la carte option. This means you can stay on the property and eat, or you can explore the nearby villages for your fix of both local Costa Rican food and international cuisine. It’s a favorite of our Liberia, Costa Rica resorts!
