Winter doesn’t mess around- and neither should you. A simple tutorial for the perfect Winter Emergency Car Kit.

After having lived almost my entire life in Colorado and Nebraska- I’m no stranger to extreme weather. While I definitely look forward to the first frost and especially to the first snow, I also have a deep respect for winter. I mean- freezing cold temps, high velocity winds and inches upon inches of snow? Who wouldn’t give some mad respect to Mother Winter?

As much as I would prefer to stay indoors sipping warm cocktails and binge watching my favorite show on TV, the fact of the matter is that usually have to leave the house despite extreme weather conditions. That’s why it’s important to be prepared in case I’m caught off guard in crazy weather. (Like the time I was in labor, alone, driving home from work- that’s a story for another day!) Here’s a quick tutorial on how to create your own Winter Emergency Car Kit.

Emergency Car Kit Items

  • Jumper Cables
  • Ice Scraper
  • De-Icer
  • Warm Blanket
  • Non-Perishable Snacks
  • Cell Phone Charger
  • An extra pint of oil
  • Goodyear® Assurance® WeatherReady™ Tires from Sam’s Club

Obviously this is not a list for every single thing that you would possibly need in your car in case you get stuck in the snow. Especially if you are headed out of the city for a longer road trip or a weekend in the backcountry, you would need a LOT more gear than just the stuff listed above.

But- for Winter emergencies that can arise at the last minute, such as having to pull off the road in excessive snow or ice, sliding off the road and needing to call for help, or getting in a wreck, everything listed above is super helpful. And I can’t even tell you how many times the jumper cables have saved me- or made me new friends with people who were in a pinch.

I store my Emergency Car Kit right in the trunk where I can access it easily. I don’t usually like to have a lot of extra things in my car, so I stashed everything inside the blanket and folded it up in the corner of my trunk.

A Winter Emergency Kit is irrelevant without tires that can tackle every weather condition- and I am super excited to have partnered with Sam’s Club and Goodyear to test out the new Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady Tires for our 2009 Honda Accord. I want to quickly walk you through the highlights of purchasing and installing the tires- and share with you an awesome $80 savings coupon from Goodyear and Sam’s Club. Please note that these tires do not fit all vehicles.

It was super easy to special order the tires, and they arrived at my local Sam’s Club in 3 days. I used the Sam’s Club Tire Selector Tool, but you can also check the sidewall of your tires, a sticker on the driver-side door jamb of your vehicle or your owner’s manual. The installation took 20 minutes,  and the guys there were both professional and helpful. I don’t always include a ton of info on my shopping experience in these types of posts, but I have to say that the men at Sam’s Club doing the tire installations were phenomenal in their customer service and attention to detail. I would highly highly recommend the entire experience- and the other bloggers on this campaign have also written really excellent things about the experience.

It was crazy- they pulled my car into the shop and four guys with power tools descended on my vehicle. They were SO FAST and super detailed!

And about those tires…. our Honda Accord is driven by my husband most of the time. As soon as he drove the car for the first time after the tires were put on, he came home raving about the ride. He said he noticed right away how much smoother and comfortable his car felt when driving it. And he had really new tires on his car to begin with!

The Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady Tires have great technology to ensure not only a comfortable ride, but a safe on in all weather conditions. The 3D TredLock® Technology Blades provide predictable traction in turns when the weather changes- and that keeps you feeling safe in all kinds of different conditions.

So as you prepare for winter , don’t forget to create your Winter Emergency Kit, and start with great tires from Goodyear. Right now, you can GET $80 OFF INSTANTLY* ON A SET OF FOUR GOODYEAR® TIRES from Sam’s Club by using this link- http://cbi.as/a0hru

This was a great find for me! I am in the process of interviewing for jobs in Colorado, and packing my house for the move! (Yuck!) And I had not even thought, yet, about an emergency car kit. Thanks for the tips, and making my own is now definitely high in the list!
