Planning a visit to Disneyland in 2019? We’ve got a list of the top new attractions- including specific info on all the ways you can access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this summer, and links to discount park and accommodations tickets.
Disney has a full slate of amazing new attractions at both Disneyland and Disney World in 2019. You’d practically have to live under a rock not to have heard about the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opening at both parks- ahead of schedule, this summer.
What’s the real info on Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland? We will get to that in a minute- but if you are planning to visit Disneyland in 2019 there’s more in store than just Star Wars. Here’s a rundown of our top 8 picks of what’s new at Disneyland in 2019.
#8- California Adventure Food And Wine Festival
Before we visited Disneyland for the first time, I had seen tons of Instagram photos of the food at Disneyland. I wasn’t totally convinced of the hype though, until I tried my first macaroon. OMGoodness- the food at Disney is amazing. So that’s why I wish we had a Spring visit to Disneyland planned!
The annual California Adventure Food and Wine Festival is in full swing right now. With food and beverage offerings inspired by locally-grown California ingredients- come hungry! The Sip and Savor pass allows you to try up to 8 of the festival offerings, like the Mickey’s Cotton Candy soda. When you mix in the cotton candy, the entire drink turns green!
The California Adventure Food and Wine Festival isn’t just for adults either. The annual Junior Chef Experience is led by Chef Goofy, and aimed at kids aged 3-11. The festival runs in the California Adventure Park daily through April 23, 2019.
#7 Mickey’s Magic Mix Show
We had the experience of catching the Fantasmic show at Disneyland’s HalloweenTime, but we didn’t love it for the under 5 crowd. So we are especially excited about Mickey’s Magic Mix which debuted at Disneyland in January. It’s a high energy projection show that lights up Disneyland park and even has a fireworks component on select nights.
The house-music inspired dance party happens throughout the park- along Main Street USA, at the water screens along Rivers of America and on the facade of “it’s a small world” We are so excited that the new dance party mix includes BOTH our current Disney favorite songs- “Un Poco Loco” from Coco and “Let It Go” from Frozen!
#6 Mickey’s Soundsational Parade
We Are Mary Poppins Obsessed at Casa Pura Vida, and on our first visit to Disneyland, we also became parade obsessed! That’s why I’m especially excited about the new Mickey’s Soundsational Parade that started in January of this year.
The parade kicks off with Mickey himself rocking out on a huge acoustic drum set! The former drumline girl in me is SO excited for that. There are 92 performers and nine themed floats- including Tinker Bell who plays mushroom drums using her wand as the drumstick.
There are TWO Mary Poppins components as the grand finale of the parade. I won’t give away all the secrets, but let’s just say that you better brush up on your “Step In Time” lyrics! My girls are going to LOVE this!
#5 Disney Junior Dance Party- Now With Vampirina!
We had front row seats to the Disney Junior Dance Party at California Adventure in the Fall, and the girls LOVED it. And you know what? I had a blast too! The cast was perfectly high energy and fun, and the girls got to see some of the favorite Disney Junior Characters like Mickey’s Roaster Racers and Doc McStuffins. We also got to meet Vampirina on that trip.
It must have been a quick preview to the news that Vampirina joined the Disney Junior Dance Party in California Adventure on February 1! This 18 minute, high energy dance party show is a must-see for all ages, but especially Disney Junior fans.
#4 Two New Pixar Pier Attractions At California Adventure
One of my favorites parts of Disneyland on my first visit in October was Pixar Pier- most specifically the IncrediCoaster. My girls got to meet ElastiGirl, which was one of the highlights of their trip. So was the Toy Story Midway Mania ride, which we go to go on several times thanks to our Fast Pass.
So we are excited about two new attractions opening on Pixar Peer- Inside Out Emotional Whirlshind and Jessie’s Critter Carousel. AND- Capitan Marvel will available this year for meet and greets! Dates to be announced, so stay tuned!
#3 Iconic Rides- Anniversaries
This year is also home to some big anniversaries for some of my favorite rides-
- Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage (originally opened as Submarine Voyage), 60th anniversary (June 6)
- Matterhorn Bobsleds and Disneyland Monorail, 60th anniversaries (June 14)
- Splash Mountain, 30th anniversary (July 17)
- Haunted Mansion, 50th anniversary (Aug. 9)
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, 40th anniversary (Sept. 2)
I am seriously so excited about the Matterhorn Bobsleds as the attraction was closed last time we were at Disneyland. And my kids LOVE Splash Mountian! Which iconic ride is your favorite?
HalloweenTime is BAAAACK! Need we say more? We ate our way through the 2018 festival, and can’t wait to see what’s in store this year. The Haunted Mansion is sure to be epic especially since this year is it’s 50th anniversary! Stay tuned for updates! Not sure if HalloweenTime is for you? We think it is! Here are 5 reasons HalloweenTime is the BEST time at Disneyland!
#1 Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opens on May 31
We’ve all seen the construction. We’ve experienced the teasers. Now it’s finally time to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge beginning on May 31.
Two huge interactive attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. On Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Blue milk. Libations at the Cantina (I cannot WAIT to see the Cantina come alive!) Original music by John Williams.
So how do you get to experience this, exactly? From Disneyland:
“Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park between May 31 and June 23, 2019, will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneyland.com and the Disney Parks Blog. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.”
We stayed on property at the Grand Californian in September of last year and it was totally worth it. I highly recommend making reservations to stay on property at Disneyland NOW – especially if you are dead set on visiting Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. I think it will be the best way to guarantee a visit to the new land!
