Make Your Own Trail Mix Bar - Pura Vida Moms

Make Your Own Trail Mix Bar

It’s officially Fall in Colorado, which means that we get to do a lot of hiking- so we are especially excited to bring you this shop that has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #WhatInconvenience #CollectiveBias

We are spoiled living here in Colorado with a myriad of amazing hiking trails super close to our house. Since a high school back injury, I have chronic back pain which is exacerbated by carrying a backpack (or a child) on my back for long periods of walking.

Since I love hiking (this is my younger daughter and I on a recent trip to Hanging Lake), I am not about to let back pain keep me off the trail- and that’s why I keep Advil on hand for when my back hurts. I love the Advil EZ Open Cap that I found at Wal-Mart because it is easy to open when I’m on the trail, and it relieves my joint pain most effectively, and is the most recommended by doctors (based on a survey of monthly doctor recommendations). It’s also super easy for those with Arthritis to open too!

Fall means getting together with friends and family to hike so I decided to put together a few ideas for a hiking party- with everything we need to stay energized and pain free on the trail. We had a make your own trail mix bar, decorate your own water bottles, and of course, Advil!

It’s almost impossible to drink too much water in Colorado since the weather is so dry, but it’s especially important to have lots of water when hiking at high altitudes. I created a decorate your own water bottle activity for guests, and it was super simple and fun for everyone. First I removed the labels from the disposable water bottles, and used one of them as a template to cut white copy paper to the same size. Then, I attached the copy paper back on the water bottle with tape. I had cute outdoor themed stickers and markers for everyone to get creative.

It’s also important to have healthy snacks on the trail, and I love to make a fun trail mix. You can really use any ingredients that you want, but I used a mix of protein, whole grain carbohydrates and sugar to keep our energy up. We had dry cereal, banana chips, rasins, peanuts and chocolate chips. Each person was able to mix the ratio of ingredients that they wanted, and put theirs in a little decroative bag to take with them.

I purchased my Advil at my local Wal-Mart, and it was perfect because I was able to pick up the ingredients for the party at a great price as well. The Advil is in the pharmacy section.
