I recently got really tired of wearing yoga pants and pilled t-shirts out and about (anyone else with me?). This coincided pretty much with the fact that I needed to prepare for a big blog conference– and look professional for the first time since before I got pregnant with Little Sister. I had given away most of the clothes that didn’t fit or didn’t bring me joy- this was amidst a Marie Kondo decluttering spree that lasted almost a year (and which I 99% do not regret.) I thought didn’t have either enough pieces in my closet to look presentable. I definitely don’t have the time or money to go buy a completely new wardrobe. My next door neighbor recommended I have a closet audit by a personal stylist that she knows- and it was a phenomenal experience. I used Jessie of Joyful Jessie, and she is based right here in Colorado. Even if you aren’t living near Jessie, I highly recommend a personal closet audit by a good stylist. Here’s what you can expect!
What To Expect From Your Professional Stylist
The most important piece when working with a stylist in your home is to let him or her get to know you and your style. It’s also important to be open and honest about what you do and do not like to wear. It can be fun to take fashion risks, but it’s also crucial to feel comfortable in your outfits. The first thing my stylist Jessie did when she arrived was ask me about my personal style. I told her I didn’t have one- ha. I was so happy she pushed me to describe what I like to wear, because I was able to articulate how I love to wear dresses, and good accessories make me feel confident. Jessie went through the clothes in my closet and asked me about different pieces and how I feel about them. I loved her reminder that if there is something in my closet that I don’t love, it is time to pass it along. Ditto for clothes that can’t be repaired or are in bad shape. You should expect your professional stylist to get to know you and your tastes, and then respectfully assess the current pieces in your collection.
Closet Audit Process
With Jessie, our session was four parts and lasted about ninety minutes.
First, we looked at my clothes and talked about the pieces I do and don’t like. I mentioned a dress I didn’t really like any more- she said “Then why is it in your closet?” Good point.
After pulling out my best pieces, Jessie started to create outfits for each of the conference events. A lot of the clothes she picked I had in my suitcase for our Costa Rica trip- but I had never considered the combinations of tops, bottoms and shoes that she picked. I was already feeling super excited with the possibilities of outfits that were already in my closet.
Finally, Jessie had me try on different outfits and we played with accessories and shoes. I am headed to a big conference with lots of outfit changes, and I was also afraid I would have to spend a fortune to get all of the clothes I would need to look good. With Jessie’s professional eye for style, and the fact that I had ok clothes to begin with, it turns out I really only needed to buy a pair of black high heels and a couple of long layering pieces for chilly weather. I was so amazed and excited! She also mentioned some great pieces I could add to make my wardrobe a bit more trendy- without breaking the bank.
Why Jessie is the Best Stylist
Jessie is THE BEST stylist. What I loved about working with her was that she was totally nonjudgemental about the state of my closet, and she made me feel beautiful and confident every step of the way. She knows a lot about the current style trends, and was able to answer some of my fashion do and don’ts questions. I wasn’t sure if I could wear black heels with a navy dress- (the answer is yes!), or if I can mix metals with my jewelry (another yes- if I want an edgy look), or if a certain dress was too short (yes- but she had a great fix for that too!). Jessie also sells LuLaRoe clothing, and she helped me pick out an amazing dress, adorable leggings and a black skirt I never would have worn but looks amazing. She has super cute outfits of the day on her LuLaRoe Instagram, and a super fun LuLaRoe Facebook group with tons of great deals on the latest styles. Definitely check her out!
Jessie loves to help women feel confident in their own skin, and her wide range of services cover every aspect of beauty for everyone. Jessie offers the in-home personal styling session like I had. She’s also a bomb make up artist, and she did a mini-audit of my make-up drawer and offered some advice for better products. I can’t wait to save up for a full make up session- girls knows her stuff and it would be so fun. Jessie will shop with you for pieces you need, shoe make-up with you, she will do wedding make-up… the list goes on. Make sure to check out her website and contact her for more information.
Hook up with Jessie on Social Media- and stay tuned to Pura Vida Moms for a local giveaway of her services.
