It’s germ season- and we’ve got info on everything you need to safely choose, purchase and store the right medications to keep you healthy!
As optimistic as I am about staying healthy during germ season- without fail my husband or I get sick at the worst possible time. And of course, when we get sick, we never feel like running to the store to get meds- we just want to go straight to bed! Everyone knows it’s hard to sleep when you are sick, so I make sure to stock up on the right products to keep us as healthy and symptom free as possible.
This season, I started at Kroger to stock up on the products that we usually need to minimize our symptoms when we get sick. I purchased a mix of products to cover about any illness- Breathe Right Extra Clear, Dial Complete Antibacterial Foaming Soap, Halls Cherry, Theraflu ExpressMax Severe Cold and Flu Syrup, Kleenex Anti Viral, and TYLENOL® Cold + Flu Severe Day and Night Caplets.
I wanted to share with you all where I store the products- they need to be out of the reach of children. All of the medications I purchased are for adults only- and so I keep them on the top shelf of our medicine cabinet- way up high out of reach of small hands.
That said- preventing the spread of germs is super important, so we keep the Dial soap in our bathroom where the step stool is. My girls know that when they get home from anywhere, they need to wash their hands. I trust Dial because it kills 99.99% of germs. And my kids love the foaming dispenser- they feel special when they get to wash hands “all by themselves” and squirt the foam on their own little hands!
I also keep the Kleenex Anti Viral next to all of our beds in the winter. These are super soft Kleenex- so our sensitive skin doesn’t get irritated from constant nose blowing.
Now for the meds- I’m all about staying as healthy as possible to avoid getting sick. But once you do- it’s all about staying as symptom-free as possible while the illness works it’s way through my system. That means combatting germs day and night.
In the day, I like to use the TheraFlu ExpressMax Severe Cold and Flu syrup in the morning because I feel like the syrup relieves symptoms- just make sure you read the label and follow it’s directions.
I use Halls throughout the day to soothe a scratchy throat, especially on the days when I have to talk a ton. (Halls are not for children under the age of 4). Always use products as directed- for me, once the TheraFlu has worn off I will start on the TYLENOL® Cold + Flu Severe Day caplets to keep the symptoms at bay so I can finish off my day.
Make sure that you do not take two products with acetaminophen at the same time and only use according to label directions.
Sleep is a whole other battle- sleeping when sick can be super tough- especially if I am congested. I will generally take a TYLENOL® Cold + Flu Severe caplet about an hour before bed. It settles and allows my symptoms to clear a bit before I actually want to get in bed. Once I’m there- the Breathe Right Extra Clear strips are drug free nasal congestion relief that helps keep me asleep all night.
Getting sick can definitely be an inconvenience- but stocking up on the right meds in advance means that when the symptoms hit you are prepared and can focus on rest.
