Preparing for your first visit to Disneyland? This roundup of posts from top Disney bloggers will answer your questions and provide tons of tips! (Spoiler alert- visiting Disneyland with preschoolers is a blast!)
We are gearing up for our family’s first visit to Disneyland EVER- and I can hardly wait! We are so excited to stay in the Grand Californian Hotel for a special Halloween Time event sponsored by Disney- it’s literally a dream come true.
But as I prepare for the trip, I realize that I have a ton of questions about traveling to Disneyland with young children! Luckily there are lots of resources out there for planning trips to Disneyland- and I have rounded up some of the best posts from the experts (other blog moms of course!) to bring you the best info I’ve found.
First Visit To Disneyland- Accommodations and Food
The biggest question I had is about where to stay- but Disney is hosting us at the Grand Californian Hotel (I am sooo excited about this- it’s right on property!) and lining us up with their shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. My Disney expert and good friend Sara from Mom Endeavors dishes on the Disneyland Hotel in this post so you can compare experiences.
The next question- food! What can we expect to eat and where should we eat it? I’m a total travel foodie, and I definitely have seen tons of amazing pictures on Instagram and Facebook of the food at Disney- so I wanted the low down. There seem to be so many options- from making special dining reservations in this how to guide to participating in character dining experiences to just finding delicious food as you walk through the park- like at the new Pixar Pier.
What To Wear At Disneyland
Once we have a place to sleep and are fed, my next question is attire. What should I wear to Disney? I quick checked the weather and it is going to be almost 90 degrees for our fist visit to Disneyland- hot! I So we are definitely wearing shorts and t shirts and tennis- lots of walking. I found these cute DIY Star Wars Mickey ears– and we might adapt them for Coco! It looks like it will be cool at night for the parades and night shows, so I plan to take long sleeved shirts too.
What Should I Take To The Park?
My next two questions are ones every parent of young children has- what should I do about naps? Should I take a stroller? We nap religiously at home, and I really want to avoid a meltdown situation, or a situation where the kids are so tired that they can’t enjoy the park. So many moms I reached out to said to have a stroller with us– and the kids will fall asleep in there if they are really tired. I love this handy guide with how to find your stroller at Disneyland too– that was another question I had!
Then I wondered what I needed to do to get ready for the park visit itself. Luckily Leslie of Trips With Tykes let me know that I need the Disney app and that we will be provided a Max Pass- and she has 21 tips for how to use it. I also found this handy guide with tips on how to use the Rider Switch Pass– where one parent can wait in line while the other parent is with the little kids, and then the parent with kid duty can switch and ride too. So many moms mentioned an autograph book too- and I found this easy DIY Disney autograph book option from Mom Endeavors.
First Photos At Disneyland
This trip is a really big deal for us- as it is for so many families. I want to make sure that we capture our memories, but I also want to be in the photos! Most of the time I am the family photographer or we settle for selfies, and I want to have great photos to take home with us to remember our trip for years to come. Disneyland has a Photo Pass service which you can learn more about here. And I just love Savoring the Good’s roundup of the best Disney photo walls in the California Adventure park.
I have a million more questions about our first visit to Disneyland- but before I go into analysis paralysis, I am stopping here and mentally preparing myself to learn a lot about Disneyland on this trip- and have so much fun! Look for some follow up posts in the weeks to come as we share our first family Disneyland experience with you on all our platforms!
