We recently unearthed an old box of play clothes from my childhood. They were in my parents’ basement, and man, did they bring back memories. I had forgotten that my mom had worked for Wendy’s in college- and that I had decided I wanted to BE Wendy, pretty much all the time, for bout a year. Which resulted in my wearing her Wendy’s kitchen hat, braiding my hair, and painting black “freckles” over my existing ones. Talk about cute!
So it was perfect timing that I got to head over to our local Wendy’s and check out their salads. And, no, I did not bring my Wendy’s hat along, although I thought about it! I really enjoy eating a fresh salad- (do you ever notice that salads are so much better when someone else prepares them?) and I’m excited to share the process of how Wendy’s prepares their fresh salads with you!
I headed to the Wendy’s at Alamo Placita here in Denver for a private, in store demo on how Wendy’s prepares their salads fresh each day. (A huge thanks to the restaurant crew for taking amazing care of us while we were in their restaurant- what a gracious group of people!) I was surprised to learn that whole, fresh ingredients are delivered to Wendy’s a few times each week, and that the salad prep person spends 1 1/2-2 hours PER DAY prepping the lettuce for the salads. And check out the HUGE lettuce chopper they use!
I’ve been working to eat more whole, plant-based foods, and I am super impressed by how seriously Wendy’s takes their salad preparation. Once the lettuce is prepped, the rest of the ingredients, depending on the salad, are not added until you actually order your salad. That’s what makes the salad taste so fresh when you eat it.
I had the chance to sample four of the Wendy’s salads- the seasonal Strawberry Mango Chicken Salad, the Fresh Mozzarella Chicken Salad, the Apple Pecan Chicken Salad, and the Power Mediterranean Salad. My favorites by far were the Strawberry Mando and the Apple Pecan.
The mangos and strawberries are SO FRESH on this salad. And I was excited to see that Wendy’s offers strawberries as a side on their kid’s meals- which means when we visit Wendy’s as a family, there are healthy choices for all of us.
Wendy’s fresh salads made with fresh ingredients every day are available in both half and full sizes beginning at 10:30 am. Wendy’s took customer feedback and re-introduced the taco salad (complete with a side of their famous chili), and their summer promotion includes $0.50 small Frosty’s all summer long. I LOVE to order a half sized salad and a small fries- a bit of indulgence while still making a healthy salad choice.
We also got to sample the new FruitTea Mango Peach and Strawberry Passionfruit Signature Beverages- made with Minute Maid juice concentrate an Honest Tea Green Tea. The drinks were the perfect indulgent treat on a hot summer day!
Make sure to head to Wendy’s to try the Strawberry Mango Salad- it’s only available until Labor Day. It’s the perfect end of summer celebratory meal- and healthy too! Also be sure to share your Wendy’s experience on social media by tagging @Wendys on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | You Tube – their Instagram feed is crave-worthy!
