Kids love music- in any language! These Spanish songs for kids will make learning Spanish fun for everyone!

Raising bilingual kids is a lot of work! Bilingualism is also one of the most important gifts we can give our children- so it’s important to have good resources for each stage of the language learning journey.

This Youtube playlist includes songs that are perfect for young children (5 and under) whose parents speak Spanish at home and love to sing.

It’s also a great playlist for Spanish 1 teachers to use with their Spanish classes. The songs are simple enough to pick up quickly so a Spanish learner can easily work on pronunciation skills.

In this post, I’ll share with you a few of my favorite traditional Spanish nursery rhymes, as well as a few tips for using Spanish to help raise your bilingual baby!

Why Use Music With Bilingual Kids?

When I was pregnant with my first child, I really had no idea what parenting would look like for me. What I did know, without a doubt, was that I wanted to raise a bilingual baby- and that meant I had to teach Spanish at home.

There are so many benefits to bilingualism, and it’s a lot easier to learn two languages from birth than when you are in your 20s (like I did).

As I thought through some of the ways to introduce baby to Spanish from day 1, I immediately went to music.

Even for people who are only speaking one language at home, it’s still easy to add Spanish songs to help with language development.

Music is soothing to the brain, it’s repetitive as children are hearing the same sounds over and over, and it helps with early reading skills.

Plus- it was fun for me, as a native English language speaker,  to learn new nursery rhymes in Spanish along with my kids. Many of these songs are traditional Spanish children’s songs popular in Latin America and Spanish. We still sing many in the car today!

I also loved using music because it took the pressure off of me having to talk to the kids all the time when they were babies all the time.

I could just sing along to the songs as I changed their diapers or dressed them. Or I could just be quiet for a bit and listen- which was also always nice.

**A note on Jose Luiz Orozco- Jose Luis Orozco is a fully bilingual folk song artist from the United States. Both of his native languages are English and Spanish. He grew up in California where his parents spoke the minority language (Spanish) and he grew up speaking English (majority language).

His music is the ultimate American Bilingual folk music, and bilingual preschool programs across the country use his songs. He’s created the quintessential soundtrack to growing up bilingual in the US, and his CDs are indispensable for bilingual parents

Without further ado- our favorite Children’s songs in Spanish. All of these videos are appropriate for kids to watch, and all of the songs can stand alone to learn without visuals as well.

Los pollitos dicen- La gallinita pintadita

We love La Gallinita Pintadita because the animations are adorable, and the words are printed on the screen- great reinforcement for pre-and emergent readers. A cute take on a classic Spanish nursery rhyme- your kids will love it!

El Baile de la Fruta- Pica Pica

This song has been in heavy rotation at Casa Pura Vida for over a year now. At first, my kids loved the silly galleta María at the beginning of the video, but the love of the song morphed into them dancing along with the video.

I love the blend of the Pica Pica singers with actual kids, and the adivinanzas at the beginning of the song will make anyone smile.

Yo tengo una casita – Pica Pica

We really love Pica Pica here, and this song is adorable because of the dance that goes along with it. Recently Big Sister grabbed a huge ball off of the patio and sang and danced the whole thing perfectly- it was a joy!

Compadre Cómpreme un Coco

Jose Luis Orozco’s album De colores should be a staple in every Spanish-English bilingual household. This song is a great tongue-twister that will keep all ages singing until they get it right! I sing it to Little Sister every night before bed- at 17 months she chimes in every time I say “coco”- and my heart melts.

Diez había en la cama- LittleBabyBum

The Little Baby Bum series of videos in English and Spanish are excellent for young children because they are short and repetitive.

They are also super relaxing to watch, and we will use one or two with our girls when they need to calm down, or when they are sick. I love this video as a transition to nap or nighttime sleep.

Báte, Báte Chocoláte by DARIA

This fun song by bilingual mom Daria is a combination alliteration and tongue twister.

Un Elefante Se Balanceaba – Spanish for Kids

This is a classic Spanish nursery rhyme that makes kids laugh. I mean, elephants balancing on a spider web? Clearly hilarious.

LA RANA CANTABA DEBAJO DEL AGUA – Toy Cantando

This is another classic Spanish nursery rhyme that is progressive- the repetition makes it easy for children to learn the lyrics. We also listen to it while reading the book of the same name. A favorite Spanish kid’s song.

La Vaca Lechera – Canciones Infantiles de la Granja de Zenón

Yep! You guessed it! Another classic nursery rhyme- this one is often used to teach pre-reading skills throughout Latin America, and a great song for kids entering bilingual school. This is one of the most popular children’s songs in Spanish in every Latin American country.

El Pollito Pio (Official video)

Sorry, but this song will drive parents nuts. Kids LOVE it though, and it’s perfect for a kitchen dance party!
